A new game of architecture is now completed by the Museum of Finnish Architecture - unfortunately available only in Finnish! Rainer Mahlamäki and Ilmari Lahdelma represent the 90ies with the design of Lusto (the Finnish Forest Museum and Information centre in Punkaharju. Lusto is now 20 years old active museum building. www.lusto.fi

June 4th - Rainer Mahlamäki & Guggenheim Helsinki Design Competition

The jury of the competition was announced today. The competition will be judged by a jury of 11 architectural experts and headed by Mark Wigley. The other jury members include the Finnish architect Rainer Mahlamaki, who is a designer of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw; the architects Anssi Lassila, Jeanne Gang, Juan Herreros, Helena Sateri and Yoshiharu Tsukamoto; Erkki Leppavuori, president and C.E.O. of the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland; Mikko Aho, the director of city planning of Helsinki; Nancy Spector, the deputy director of the Guggenheim Foundation; and Ritva Viljanen, the deputy mayor of the city of Helsinki.

June 3rd - Polityka Architectural Award Gala

the third edition of the contest organized by Polityka - the leading Polish weekly magazine. The contest aims at promoting interesting projects and solutions in the field of architecture and spatial order. The project of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews was one of the 5 laureates of the Award and additionally won the public vote among Polityka’s readers. Photo by Leszek Zych.

President of Finland Mr Sauli Niinistö visited the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw. He was toured around the building by Rainer Mahlamäki.

The lecture was held in the VII International Congress on Wooden Construction (11-13.12.2013), at St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering in Russia.

 

 

 

December 5th 2013 - Awards: The Museum of the History of Polish Jews

November 8th - 10th 2013 - The office visits Warsaw

and the Museum of the History of Polish Jews designed by the office. During the last eight years the work occupied our thoughts, many were involved and followed its construction closely. Now, for the first time the whole office got an opportunity to see the magnificent building. We also got a glimpse and a presentation about the core exhibition opening in September 2014. - Some of us enjoyed the night life in Warsaw, too.

June 30th 2013 - Derby Business Park - Hiitti and Spurtti - now completed

New office property is now completed in Derby Business Park in Perkkaa, Espoo. The business park’s name is inspired by the Vermo horse-racing track next door. Nature is close to the business park and the top floors provide beautiful sea views over the Laajalahti conservation area. The Derby Business Park is built and leased by SRV. Derby Business Park received Tekla Global BIM Award 2012 and this year it achieved the LEED Platinum level.

May 31st 2013 - The Finnish Nature Centre opens the doors to the public!

Nature from all over Finland can be experienced close to Helsinki region!   - Haltia signals a new era in wood building, for it is the first public building in Finland using CLT technique (cross lamintaed timber). The environment has been taken into account in Haltia’s facilities and activities alike through skilful design and the latest ecological solutions. February 5th 2013 - Shotcrete Award

The Museum of the History of Polish Jews has been chosen by the American Shotcrete Association (ASA) as a unique project 2012 and has been awarded with prestigious prize in the category "International Project". A comprehensive article concerning that project shall be published in Shotcrete magazine issued by ASA. The award ceremony took place in Las Vegas on 5th February during the World of Concrete days. 

November 16th 2012 - The construction of Kastelli School and Multipurpose Hall under way

A quick glance at the graphic concrete elements getting washed and ready! The construction site of Kastelli School and Multipurpose Hall in Oulu is getting busy and the foyer taking its shape with the pillars springing up like mushrooms after rain.

October 23rd 2012 - Museum of the History of Polish Jews presented in New York

The Museum of the History of Polish Jews and especially its Core Exhibition were previewed to the American media. Also Professor Rainer Mahlamäki participated this press conference held in the 7 World Trade Center in New York, USA.

October 22nd 2012 - The Finnish Nature Centre Haltia on display in Copenhagen

The Danish organization Cultural Confederation of Foreign Societes in collaboration with embassies in Denmark is organizing an exhibition presenting international contemporary architecture in October 2012. The Finnish Nature Centre Haltia is representing Finnish knowledge in eco-friendly design and building and the nature of Finland in the exhibition in the City Hall of Copenhagen from October 24th until November 3rd.

October 3rd 2012 - The office sets sail for the Helsinki archipelago

On October 3rd, the office sets sail for a little voyage in the archipelago fronting Helsinki. While enjoying the still sea breeze in the cooling autumn evening, a nautical buffet and refreshments were enjoyed on the deck of the ship.

September 26th 2012 - The construction of Tikkurila Commercial Centre about to start

YIT will begin the construction of the Tikkurila Commercial Centre in fall 2012. The first phase will cover over 30 000 m2 of the total area of 55 000 m2, including offices, a shopping center, bus terminal and parking-hall for 500 cars. See the Tikkurila Commercial Centre on Facebook.

June 13th 2012 - Tampereen Vuoreksen Eemeli presented at Housing Fair in Tampere, Finland

A cohesive group of row houses and low density residential blocks are presented at the annual national Housing Fair held this year in Tampere, Finland, from June the 13th until August the 12th. June 26th 2012 - NEW NORDIC - architecture & identity

In the Louisiana Museum of Modern art in Hummelbaek, Denmark, an exhibition is investigating the relationship of Nordic architecture with culture and identity. Joensuu Primary School will be on display in the exhibition from June 29th until October 21st, 2012.

June 6th 2012 - FINNISH ARCHITECTURE 2010/2011

The new entrance lobby for the Meilahti hospital area in Helsinki is presented at the exhibition Finnish Architecture 2010/2011 in the Museum of Finnish Architecture from June 6th until September 30th 2012.
